Wintry hiking in the snow covered Dolomites
During your winter hiking tour you will admire the imposing mountains of the Dolomites of Sesto and the world famous Three Peaks – UNESCO world heritage. You will walk through the untouched winter landscape with amazing view over valley and Dolomites.
You will experience the known valley of Sesto, the valley of alpinists and mountain guides, the breathtakingly beautiful valley of Braies with its calm high plateau Plätzwiese – amazing wild nature on 2,000 metres above sea level.
The tour can be done by less experienced walkers as well as by sporty hikers. Snowshoes can be helpful on some stages, but are not absolutely necessary.
8 days / 7 nights
Day 1: Alta Pusteria (Villabassa/Dobbiaco)
Individual arrival at the first hotel in Alta Pusteria. Free, unguarded public car park near the hotel.
Day 2: Campo di Dentro – „Drei Schuster“ hut – Sesto
(approx. 15 km, ascent 650 Hm)
From Villabassa/Dobbiaco a transfer takes you to the valley Campo di Dentro in Sesto. First you will walk through wintry larch meadows until you will get to the „Drei Schuster“ hut at the feet of the mighty Dolomites peaks. Taste the speciality of the house: warm „Apfelküchlein“ and enjoy the view of the „Dreischusterspitze“, as well as the „Schwabenalpenkopf“ before getting to Sesto by public bus.
Day 3: Circular tour Sesto – Passo Monte Croce – „Klammbach“ hut – „Nemes“ hut
(approx. 11 km, ascent 375 Hm)
Immerge into the Dolomites of Sesto: the „Zwölferkofel“ in front of you, on your right the „Dreischusterspitze“ and you very small in between the wonderful nature. From Passo Monte Croce you walk to the Alpine pasture Klammbachalm (hut) onto the Nemesalm (hut, mountain pasture). After a short break you walk back to the Passo Monte Croce.
Day 4: Sesto – Ponticello – Stolla – Prato Piazza
(approx. 6 km, ascent 500 Hm)
In the morning our driver brings you to the starting point of the hiking path at the restaurant „Gasthof Brückele“. The trail leads you along the Stolla stream through a quiet valley to the hut of the same name. The mighty Croda Rossa towers above you. Soon the valley opens up and you reach the plateau Prato Piazza.
Day 5: Circular tour Prato Piazza - Monte Specie
(approx. 10 km, ascent 325 Hm)
Starting from Prato Piazza, you hike to the Monte Specie. The ascent itself is marked by a breath-taking panorama of the great peaks of the Pragser Dolomites, such as the Hohe Gaisl or the Seekofel. The Strudelkopf offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views in the Dolomites to the peaks of the Drei Zinnen, the Cadini group, Monte Cristallo, the Tofana and the Marmolada.
Day 6: Prato Piazza – Santa Maria – Monte Rota – Villabassa/Dobbiaco
(approx. 12 km, ascent 625 Hm)
After the transfer to the starting point of the hiking tour, below the small village of Santa Maria with its Gothic pilgrimage church, the path leads to Monte Rota and further through snow-covered spruce forests to Valle San Silvestro. The mixture of a magnificent Alpine panorama on the first part and the silence and tranquility of the second part make this stage very varied.
Day 7: Villabassa/Dobbiaco – Misurina – Rifugio Auronzo
(approx. 14 km, ascent 675 Hm)
A transfer will take you to Misurina in the morning. Surrounded by mountains you start the hike. Soon you will reach Lake Antorno. The path leads you along the snow-covered mountain road to the Auronzo hut, on the south-western side of the world-famous Drei Zinnen (Three Peaks). From the terrace enjoy the stunning panorama of the Dolomites! A transfer then takes you back to the hotel, where you can review the entire hiking tour in your mind.
Day 8: Hochpustertal (Niederdorf/Toblach)

By car: on the Brenner/Brennero motorway (A22) to Brixen/Bressanone – take the exit “Brixen-Pustertal”, then through the valley Pustertal/Valle Pusteria (SS49) to Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco, depending on the location of your hotel or drive along the Felbertauernstraße to Lienz in Eastern Tyrol (Austria) and then further into Italy through the valley Pustertal/Valle Pusteria to Toblach/Dobbiaco or Niederdorf/Villabassa, depending on the location of your hotel.
By train: take the train from Innsbruck over the Brenner/Brennero to Franzensfeste/Fortezza. Change the train to the valley Pustertal/Valle Pusteria - Lienz and get off either at Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco depending on the location of your hotel. By plane: Low cost flights are available to Treviso and Venice. We can organise transfers from the airport to the starting point of the cycle tour on request.
