XC-Ski Holiday, Cortina – Sillian

On cross country skies across the border from Italy to Austria

Difficulty Level:
Duration: 7 days
Distance: 100 - 275 km
Landscape:

Two countries, a unique winter paradise and perfectly groomed trails are the three main ingredients of this cross-border cross-country tour. The route leads from the glamorous winter sports resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo to the cross-country paradise around Dobbiaco and finally across the East Tyrolean border to Sillian.

In addition to sporting and scenic highlights, the region also knows how to enchant with culinary delights.
Basically an easy cross-country tour, in which the individual sections of the day can be extended or shortened as desired. This makes it ideal for both not experienced cross-country skiers and well-trained athletes.

TRAVEL ITINERARY

7 days / 6 nights

Day 1: Alta Pusteria (Villabassa/Dobbiaco)

Individual arrival at the hotel in Dobbiaco/Villabassa. Free, unguarded public car park near the hotel.

Day 2: Cortina d‘Ampezzo – Alta Pusteria

(approx. 15 - 65 km)

The day begins with a bus ride to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Queen of the Dolomites and host of the Olympic Winter Games in 1956. Exactly 70 years later, the Olympic Rings will return there. On the route of the former Dolomites railway you run over an old railway bridge and through several tunnels, past the world-famous Three Peaks and framed by an unforgettable panorama of the Dolomites back to the Nordic Arena in Dobbiaco, where the world‘s best cross-country skiers fight for World Cup points every year.

Day 3: Val Casies

(approx. 20 - 65 km)

Today is all about exploring the various cross-country trails in Alta Pusteria. Run across wide snow fields via Monguelfo into the sunny Val Casies valley. Quaint farms and hamlets line the path and numerous restaurants along the route invite you to stop for a refreshment..

Day 4: Alta Pusteria – Sesto – Sillian

(approx. 20 - 45 km)

First, the always well-groomed trails lead to San Candido, the cultural center of the Alta Pusteria. From there you can optionally ski along the Sesto river through the idyllic winter forest on a gentle incline all the way to Sesto. Otherwise, it goes directly over the borderland trail from South Tyrol to the Austrian East Tyrol. There is only a short climb before the state border, then the route runs on slightly hilly terrain through a partly forested area to Sillian.

Day 5: Circular tour Obertilliach

(Obertilliach - trail net approx. 60 km)

The ski bus takes you today to the snow-covered Obertilliach in the Lesach valley. While the professionals are preparing for their upcoming competitions in the cross-country and biathlon center, you can enjoy the excellent snow conditions and cross-country ski runs in the surrounding meadows and forests and choose a suitable round from the extensive cross-country ski network.

Day 6: Villgraten valley

(Villgraten valley - trail net approx. 15 km)

You take the bus to the nearby Villgratental. The focus here is on being close to nature, peace and silence. Anyone who likes things a little slower, more comfortable and more enjoyable is in good hands here.

Day 7: Sillian

Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay.
