The typical carinthian huts line the path along this beautiful and varied itinerary taking you from the top of the mountains down to the Ossiachersee and further to the Wörthersee. One reached one of the greatest among the Carinthian lakes, the emerald green Wörthersee, you will join the famous seaside resorts of Velden and Pörtschach.
Via the Hohe Gloriette observation tower above Pörtschach you will reach the capital Klagenfurt with the wellknown Minimundus and the Planetarium right on the lake; and do not forget the particularly worth seeing Old town. The last stage will finally take you past the famous places Maria Wörth and Reifnitz where a detour to the Pyramidenkogel with the highest wooden tower in the world is a highlight you shouldn‘t miss!
The hiking route runs along well marked mountain paths and hiking trails. The tour is suitable for anyone in
good, basic physical condition. The stages around the Lake Wörthersee can be shorten with a boat trip.

Day 1
Individual arrival at the starting-hotel in Villach. Parking place close to the hotel available.
Day 2
ascent approx. 150 m, descent approx. 1.525 m / approx. 5 hours
In the morning a short transfer and then a cable car ride will take you to Gerlitzen, the starting point of your first hiking day. Passing on typical carinthian huts and with a breathtaking view on the city of Villach - surrounded by the mountains Dobratsch and Nockberge - you join the Lake Ossiach and your destination for today.
Day 3
ascent approx. 475 m, descent approx. 550 m / approx. 4 - 5 hours
Today the stage leads you over the Ossiacher Tauern to the largest Carinthian lake, the Wörthersee, welcoming you with its emerald green water. Before you arrive your today‘s destination - Velden a. Wörthersee/surroundings - you hike through a protected landscape along the Lake Saissersee. Idyllical situated in the mountains of Gurktal this small lake 593 above sea level invites you for a bath stop.
Day 4
ascent approx. 300 m, descent approx. 300 m / approx. 3 - 4 hours
Along the Lake Wörthersee and through cool woods you reach another small lake, the Forstsee, another popular swimming lake inviting you to a jump into the clear refreshing water. Continuing your hikingway you pass under a rock block of marple, extending over about 8 km lenght and 2 km breadth: this is well-known as the „Pörtschacher Marmor“. Not far away you see your today‘s destination Pörtschach.
Day 7
ascent approx. 700 m, descent approx. 475 m / approx. 4 - 5 hours
Through meadows and forests your last hiking day leads you along the viewing tower on Pyramidenkogel: 00 metres tall, this is the highest wooden viewing tower in the world. Enjoy the unforgettable view over the lake Wörthersee. Last but not least the Lake Trattnigteich, another small lake along your way, invites you for a break before you reach Schiefling am See and Velden a. Wörthersee. After a short train journey (ticket incl.) you arrive in Villach, end point of this beautiful hiking week.
Day 5
ascent approx. 275 m, descent approx. 275 m / approx. 3 - 4 hours
Past the Ostermann chapel (also known as Marienkapelle) you hike today on small forest and meadow pathes under the Pirken Kogel to join Klagenfurt. During this pleasant hiking stage you get by small lakes, the castle Drasing and Hornstein before you finally reach the lakeside and your destination.
Day 6
ascent approx. 350 m, descent approx. 275 m / approx. 3 - 4 hours
The day takes you far from the Lake Wörthersee and leads you to Lake Keutschacher See, another large carinthian lake. This is the place where a palafitte settlement from the Neolitih Age was discovered, the oldest known in Austria: since 2011 this is part of the World Heritage. The idyllic lake Spitnik, situated in a protected landscape, is also on your way. The upper one is also a popular swimmng lake inviting you for a short break.
Day 8
Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay.
By car: Villach is easily accessible on the motorways A2, A10 or A11 (depending on the point of origin).
By train: Good train connections to Villach. Timetable on: www.deutschebahn.de, www.oebb.at, www.trenitalia.com
By plane: Airport Klagenfurt, Salzburg or Ljubljana. There are good train connections from all these cities to your starting point.
