This cycling trip through the green landscapes of Ireland is particularly suitable for those who wish to ride shorter daily distances and dedicate more time to discovering a country where every stone has a story to tell, along with its rich culture and traditions. The stunning region of Connemara offers numerous natural attractions; we are in the so-called “land of wonders,” where rugged mountains rise above the wild Atlantic beaches.
The route will take you both inland and along the coastline, with its windswept shores, allowing you to experience the most characteristic landscapes of this region. The fascinating history and heritage of Connemara also await you. After visiting a National Park or the 19th-century Gothic abbey in Kylemore, enjoy the Irish “craic” (fun) in the evening, with music, songs, and storytelling in the welcoming local pubs.
The cycling tour follows secondary roads with little traffic; daily distances range from 25 to 35 km, with longer options available on most days. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, as the terrain is not flat but rather gently rolling countryside.

Day 1: Clifden
Individual arrival at your hotel in Clifden, a picturesque and historic town founded in 1812. Your bikes and equipment will be ready for you at the hotel, so you can try them out before the adventure begins. Afterwards, enjoy a stroll through the narrow streets of this coastal town, explore the traditional shops, and soak up the relaxed pace of the welcoming local community. Clifden is a paradise for music, art, and locally sourced food: a good pint of beer and a well-told story are never in short supply!
Day 2: Clifden – Renvyle
(approx. 35-45 km)
The longer option takes you along the Sky Road from Clifden toward what seems like the edge of the world, offering breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the vast Atlantic Ocean. Riding along quiet roads, you will pass through the traditional fishing village of Cleggan and continue to Letterfrack, the gateway to today’s destination: the Renvyle Peninsula. Stretching into the Atlantic, this area is dotted with archaeological sites, historic ruins, and white sandy beaches, all waiting to be explored.
Day 3: Renvyle – Leenane
(approx. 26 km)
Leaving Renvyle, you will follow a winding coastal road where stunning views appear at every turn: the deep green of the Atlantic Ocean contrasts sharply with the slate-gray rocks and white sandy beaches. You will pass through the village of Tullycross, with its many small thatched-roof buildings, and reach the small settlement of Leenane, located at the head of Ireland’s only fjord. Here, you can choose to take a mini-cruise on the Killary Fjord (not included) aboard the Connemara Lady catamaran; with a bit of luck, you may be greeted by dolphins.
Day 4: Leenane – Lough Inagh
(approx. 23 km)
Leaving Leenane, you will pass through marshes and small lakes, arriving in the stunning Inagh Valley. Along the way, you can visit Kylemore Abbey – the oldest Benedictine abbey in Ireland and one of the country’s main attractions! This Gothic castle on the lakeshore was built in 1867 and served for a long time as a private girls’ school. It is also home to one of Ireland’s most beautiful gardens, a six-acre Victorian garden created at the same time as Kylemore Castle by Mitchell Henry. Tonight, you will stay in a charming accommodation with views over Lough Inagh.
Day 5: Lough Inagh – Roundstone
(approx. 28 km)
Today you will cycle toward the coast, leaving the mountains behind. Charming fishing villages and moorlands will line your route until you reach the picturesque village of Roundstone. You will follow a path dotted with quaint fishing villages while passing through a landscape of bogs and heaths still divided according to the Neolithic system. You will then enter the Gaeltacht region (Irish-speaking area): listen to this ancient language with its musical rhythm all around you. Tonight, you can rest in the picturesque fishing village of Roundstone, a paradise for artists, musicians, and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the world!
Day 6: Roundstone – Clifden
(approx. 24 km)
The final cycling stage begins along the shores of Mannin Bay with its turquoise waters. The fresh, clean scent of the sea and the vast coastline will let you feel the full energy of this region! You will continue through the village of Ballyconneely, another charming fishing village on the western coast of Connemara. Alternatively, you can choose a shorter route along the Bog Road, locally known as “calming”! You will finally reach Clifden for your last evening filled with Irish “craic”!
