Road bike the Prosecco route - shortbreak

IT - Veneto
  • Holiday type Road bike

Tour information

Cycling in the Prosecco region is absolutely the best way to know this region framed in the north by the Alps and in the south by the river Piave, where green hills are covered by lush overgrown vineyards. What is waiting for you is a land full of charme, history and art, enriched by unexpected surprises bearing witness to its ancient past: fairy castles, aristocratic villas but also typical cellars where local people are keeping alive the pleasure of hospitality… you will absolutely need to taste their delicious local products!

In this area the winemaking tradition has ancient roots; the first written evidence of Prosecco dates back to 1772 and nowadays, even though sparkling wines are widespread throughout the whole country, only the product born from these particular graves, with its floral and fruity scent, can bring in the world the name of „Prosecco“.
An cycling tour on road bikes suitable to everybody, following good cycle paths and secondary roads far from heavy traffic. All overnights are in the same hotel.

Route highlights

Collio
The Collio, a corner of the extreme north-east of Italy, crossroads of peoples, cultures and events. History and borders that move and dissolve - this is the stage. The main protagonists are the vine and the wine.
Asolo
Small medieval town with a charming old town in the middle of the Asolan hills.
Farra d'Alpago
The lake, situated at an altitude of about 386 metres in the province of Belluno, is uninhabited on the eastern shore, while the small town of Santa Croce lies at the southern end. The lake with its green water is especially popular with windsurfers.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Revine Lago/Vittorio Veneto

Individual arrival in Revine Lago/Vittorio Veneto.

Day 2: Revine Lago - Passo San Boldo - Vittorio Veneto - Revine Lago

(approx. 80 km, ascent approx. 1.725 m)

From the starting hotel, the route leads towards Tovena, where the ascent to the San Boldo Pass begins. The unique route of the south ramp in a Sack Valley closed by almost vertical rock walls is remarkable. The top of the pass can only be reached through five narrow spiral tunnels blasted into the rock and over six bridges. Once at the top, you pass the border to the province of Belluno. A long descent now leads towards Belluno, Ponte delle Alpi and Alpago. Along the beautiful Santa Croce Lake, the route leads to Fadalto and then back to the starting hotel.

Day 3: Revine Lago - Asolo - Valdobbiadene - Revine Lago

(approx. 105-110 km, ascent approx 1.100 m)

Today‘s stage leads towards Col San Martino and to Vidor, where you will cross the Piave River. Alongside roads, you will reach the beautiful city of Asolo, the city of a hundred horizons with a fortress on the summit of Monte Ricco. On the way, you will pass Venetian villas, the result of the skill and ingenuity of great architects, especially Andrea Palladio. From Asolo, it goes down to Pagnano, Crespano del Grappa to Possagno, where you can admire the Roman Catholic Church of Canova. It slowly becomes hilly again and the route leads along vineyards past the well-known village of Valdobbiadene.

Day 4: Revine Lago - Montello - Revine Lago - Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay

(approx. 105-110 km, ascent approx. 1.000 m)

In the morning you will cycle again in the direction of Vidor, cross the 220 km long Piave river and cycle comfortably to the Montello nature reserve, which can be reached via 21 small roads. These curved paths are called „prese“, on one side they lead up the hill and on the other side down again. The area is particularly popular with cyclists. Along the hill range, it goes to Santa Maria Della Vittoria and back to Vidor. You can stop in the famous Osteria Senza Oste for a good Prosecco glass. The route leads back to the starting hotel via Colbertaldo, Farra di Soligo and Refrontolo.

The order of the stages can be adjusted individually.
