TRAVEL ITINERARY

8 days / 7 nights

Day 1

Individual arrival at the hotel in Hochpustertal. Free, unguarded public car park near the hotel.

Day 2

ascent approx. 475 m, descent approx. 1.250 m / approx. 5 - 6 hours

A short transfer takes you to Misurina in the middle of the Dolomites, UNESCO world heritage since 2009 and nearby the beautiful honomynous see and starting point of your hiking week. The panoramique route leads through Val Marzon towards Auronzo di Cadore, visited in 2007 from Pope Benedikt XVI. The last 8 km of the hiking stage on the valley cycle path can be shorten by public transfer (ticket not incl.)

Day 3

ascent approx. 975 m, descent approx. 650 m / ca. 5 - 6 hours

From Auronzo di Cadore your hike begins with an ascent to Passo S. Antonio; from this point you continue in slightly ascent till the beautiful hut-village Alarnola. You just need to cover a short descent to get to your destination for today, Padola in Val Comelico.

Day 4

ascent approx. 850 m, descent approx. 825 m / approx. 6 - 7 hours

In the morning a short transfer will bring you to your starting point in Val Digon. From the small chapel „Ai Caduti di Cima Vallona“ you hike to several small mountain residentials; while on the way you can always enjoy the amazing view over the whole Comelico Superiore. Your stage ends in the beautiful and natural „Val Visdende“, where Pope Johannes Paul II during his summer-resort celebrated the openair Mass in front of 20.000 believers.

Day 5

ascent approx. 725 m, descent approx. 725 m / approx. 5 - 6 hours

At the foot of Monte Peralba („white rock“ in English), which Pope Johannes Paul II climbed in one of his frequent hikings in the region, the tour leads passing over Passo del Roccolo to the springs of the river Piave. This river, which is flowing the Adriatic Sea, was hart-foughtet front during the WWI. Endpoint of this stage is Sappada, a German linguistic enclave, well-known for the characteristic frame-houses.

Day 6

ascent approx. 850 m, descent approx. 1.000 m / approx. 6 - 7 hours

After a short transfer to the starting point of today you begin hiking along old transit routes to Sella Ciampigotto and forward to Lorenzago or rather Lozzo di Cadore, named as „village of mills“. The river Rio Rin has always been an important driving force for development of productive operations as well as smithy and sawmill. In Lorenzago is also small castle „Castello Mirabello“, settled in the forest over Lorenzago, chosen from Pope Giovanni Paolo II as his summer-residence.

Day 7

ascent approx. 650 m, descent approx. 650 m / approx. 5 - 6 hours

Your last hiking stage leads in slighly ascent and then descent through small villages. Above Domegge di Cadore your view over the less known - but not less amazing - peaks of the Dolomites will impress you. In the next villages of Grea and Grizzio you can admire the old constructions of this region, Cadore: farmhouses buildt with wood and stone. At the end of the day you reach Pieve di Cadore, place of birth of the famous artist Tiziano.
